What is herbal Viagra? Everything you need to know as Lamar Odom fights for his life

It's not clear if herbal Viagra played a part
The ex-husband of Khloe Kardashian was at Dennis Hof's Love Ranch South in Pahrump, Nevada, and had allegedly been partying with girls and taking a herbal substitute for Viagra, TMZ quoted sources as saying.
It's not clear if the herbal substance had anything to do with Lamar's condition.
But what exactly are herbal Viagras and what are their dangers?
Herbal Viagra can have dangerous side effects
According to NHS.co.uk, they contain ‘dangerously high’ levels of prescription-only anti-obesity and erectile dysfunction drugs, the UK's medicine watchdog has warned.
In fact, while they're thought to be purely herbal, the site claims they contain "up to four times" the levels of the pharmaceuticals found in legal prescription drugs.
They are mainly used to treat erectile dysfunction, but they can have some dangerous side effects.
Primarily, they can cause abnormally low blood pressure and may restrict blood flow to vital organs - with some even being toxic if taken in large doses.
One example is the unlicensed product 'Jia Yi Jian', which has been found to contain the undeclared ingredients Sibutramine, used to treat obesity, and Tadalafil, for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
The site claims there could be dangerous side effects if taken with other blood pressure and heart disease medications, or some antidepressants.

Herbal supplements aren't held to the same standards as prescription and over-the-counter medications - so it can be difficult to know which ones are safe or effective.
Additional dangers of common herbal viagra adulterants are largely unknown because these ingredients have not had thorough review in human clinical trials.
While it's unclear if Lamar suffered any of these effects, it's claimed he had taken a herbal supplement before he was found unconscious.
Ranch owner Dennis Hof claims he saw "mucus-type liquid coming out of his nose and mouth" when he was found.
Hof also told the Daily News: "This is serious. He might not make it."
